| The group develops methods and
technologies for civil
engineering
and environmental planning and management, often focusing on
geospatial. The research group is based in civil engineering but we
collaborate with specialists in environmental science, biology,
geography, and various branches of computer science. The
idea is to carry out research in the emerging area of distributed and
multi-disciplinary problem solving where old and new modelling tools
and methods meet rapidly developing information technology and methods. The
official name of the professorship is "environmental planning and
management information technology, in particular applied
geoinformatics". Previously (2003-2008) the official name of the
professorship was "geoinformatics, in particular development of
geographic information systems for civil engineering". The group works in the Aalto
University Lahti Center and Department
of
Civil
and
Environmental Engineering.
